MHS Class of 1966 45th Reunion

Saturday, June 11, 2011 the Morrilton High School Class of 1966 gathered on Petit Jean Mountain to celebrate their 45th Reunion. The event was held at The Boathouse at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute under a covered pavilion. Class members traveled from as far away as Washington State, Colorado, Florida and from across Arkansas.

Over sixty-five class members, spouses, and friends gathered at five o’clock to reminisce and swap stories. The group enjoyed a cookout supper followed by a show and dance featuring The Chancellors. Although skies were overcast, the weather cooperated and it turned out to be a beautiful and cool summer evening in spite of a few sprinkles at suppertime.

Class president, Ron Newman, welcomed the crowd and Dewayne Davis offered a prayer before dinner. Newman later read the graduation speech he had given 45 years earlier from the original three by five note cards. Other Morrilton High School graduates from the classes of 1964 through 1968 were also at the reunion making it an evening to remember.

Over eighty people were on hand for the dance and the vintage music brought back a flood of good memories and good times. The Chancellors, from Conway, Arkansas, performed at the Morrilton Junior-Senior Prom in 1966, and the band’s original members reunited for the first time in forty-three years to perform the reunion dance. The group played three sets of music composed exclusively of songs from the late 1960s and kept the dance floor rocking until after eleven o’clock.

The 1966 Reunion committee has already scheduled their 50th Reunion for Saturday, June 11, 2016 on Petit Jean Mountain and complete details will be announced within the next few years.

Some of the photos taken during the evening are posted below. If you have photos of the reunion you would like to share, send them to mhsdevildog1966@yahoo.com
